Haryana CM Khattar Resigned

After meeting with Governor Bandaru Dattareya on Tuesday morning, Manohar Lal Khattar, the Haryana CM Khattar Resigned. The resignation of Mr. Khattar and his whole cabinet came as there were rumors of a rift among the ruling BJP-JJP over seat-sharing in the Lok Sabha election.

Both the BJP and Dushyant Chautala‘s JJP have declared they will run independent campaigns in the upcoming election. The BJP won all 10 seats in the state in 2019 with a landslide. The newly established party of Mr. Chautala finished with a commendable vote share of 4.9% despite losing all seven of its contests.

The JJP’s ten Assembly seats from the 2019 election were crucial because, with 40 seats, the BJP fell six seats short of a majority in the 90-member House and had to reach an agreement to form the government after the election.

Haryana Alliance Ends

Haryana CM Khattar Resigned But there’s also talk that Mr. Khattar would take the helm of a government supported by independent MLAs when he returns as chief minister. The BJP is also trying to take into account the representation of various castes or communities ahead of the Lok Sabha election; following its victories in the Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh Assembly elections in November of last year, the party made similar moves.

As a result, this government may have two Deputy Chief Ministers, representing two different communities.

Five JJP MLAs who are expected to defect could also strengthen this new BJP government, according to sources. Jogi Ram Sihag, Devinder Babli, Ishwar Singh, Ramniwas, and Ram Kumar Gautam are these five. These five, according to sources, might create a split faction and join the BJP.

Haryana’s next chief minister, Nayab Singh Saini, will take office at 5:00 p.m

Nayab Singh Saini, a BJP member from Kurukshetra, is expected to take over as Haryana’s chief minister, sources informed India Today. At 5:00 PM, he will take the oath. Following a rift over seat distribution for the Lok Sabha elections between the BJP and Dushyant Chautala’s JJP, ML Khattar tendered his resignation as chief minister earlier today.

Sources tell India Today that the BJP may run ML Khattar for the Lok Sabha seat from either Kurukshetra or Karnal. Saini is expected to take over as chief minister, which means Khattar might be chosen from Kurukshetra.
